Museums and Material Culture: East Asia
The Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures have established a year-long program of events and discussions about Museums and Material Culture. The series engages experts from museums, galleries, and art institutions in conversation about a variety of issues and topics, from museum anthropology to the collecting and selling of East Asian art. In the fall of 2014, the Institute welcomed David Harvey, Laurel Kendall, and Ross MacPhee from the American Museum of Natural History on September 25 and contemporary Chinese art gallery owner Ethan Cohen on October 1. In the spring of 2015, the Institute will host discussions about Museums and Digital Media, the History of Chinese Fashion, and the Collecting and Presenting Tibetan Art. Moderators for these discussions include Weatherhead East Asian Institute faculty Dorothy Ko, Eugenia Lean, Haruo Shirane, and Gray Tuttle.
